The UW Marshfield/Wood County Men’s Tennis Team Won the Wisconsin Junior College State Championship Saturday at Madison.

The Marauders got State titles from: Chris O’Dell & Spencer Grande at 1 doubles, Dave Waite at 3 singles (2^nd year in a row for Dave), Zac Mengel at 5 singles

& Zac Mengel & Steve Abel at 3 doubles.

Chris O’Dell took 2^nd at 1 singles, Spencer Grande was 2^nd at 2 singles, Josh Brueggeman won once at 4 singles, Steve Abel won the consolation championship at 6 singles, & Waite & Brueggeman were 2^nd at 2 doubles. U W Sheboygan & UW Washington tied for 2^nd place & UW Waukesha was 4^th.

The UW Marauder Women tied for 3^rd place with UW Sheboygan. UW Washington won the Women’s Championship & UW Fox Valley took 2^nd.

Sierra Noth won the 1 singles consolation championship, Kari Schumacher won one match at 2 singles, Nicole Gershman took 2^nd at 3 singles,

& Noth & Schumacher won one match at 1 doubles.

John Harrington has been coaching tennis at UW-M/WC for 33 years. During that time, the Marauder teams have won 10 conferences and seven state championships. In 2004, the men’s team took 4th place at the WI State Junior College Tournament and 5th place at the WI Collegiate Conference Tournament.
