Computer Lab Acceptable Use Policy
Computer labs are an essential link in the educational
process. Labs provide access to technology many students
may not have at home. The campus IT department strives to
maintain a computer lab that is both functional and
practical. It is not the intentions of Campus IT or CIITC
to in any way infringe upon anyones academic freedoms.
However, we must also provide guidelines for computer usage
to assure that all students have equal access to computer
technology. It is permissible for students to use the labs
for incidental personal use as defined by the UW Regents
Acceptable Use Policy. Academic needs always take
precedence over personal use and as such, personal use
should be reserved for times when other users are not
waiting to use computers. In such an event, you may be
asked by a lab assistant, instructor or another student to
surrender the computer you are using to provide access to a
student with an academic need.
Below
are the guidelines for all students using campus computer
labs:
·
Loading of any
software is prohibited. If you need something loaded for
academic reasons, please call 4357 (HELP) or email
msfhelp@uwc.edu
·
Food and Drink
are not allowed in the computer labs
·
Altering of
the computer configurations is prohibited. This includes,
adding and removing any software or hardware
·
No Instant
messengers or IRC/Chat use
·
No Games
(local, Internet, or others)
·
Computer Lab
Assistants, Faculty, and students have the right to request
use of a computer for academic purposes if the current user
is using it for personal activities
·
Graphical
screen images which can reasonably be construed as to
constituting a harassing environment are prohibited
If you are required to use
the Internet for a class, which requires you visit sites
that may be considered obscene or objectionable to others,
you may be asked to supply the name of the faculty and the
class for which the assignment is for when asked by the lab
assistant or other staff/student.
Campus
IT will cooperate with law enforcement agencies if criminal
activity is suspected.
