Record participation at UW Math League competition

MARSHFIELD –Stratford High School was named the overall winner of the annual UW-Marshfield/Wood County 2012 Math League competition.   This year’s competition had record participation with 145 high school students from Central Wisconsin.

Students competed in individual and group categories in Algebra, Geometry and Pre-Calculus. 

Stratford High School’s team scored the most points throughout the day in what was a very close competition.  The Stratford team’s students were:  Colin Cole, Ashley Hartl, Erin Specht, Andrea Wenzel, Kylee Becker, Eric Belter, Marc Wenzel, Marissa Wussow, Derek Austin, Grayson Cole, Nolen Bargender and Troy Mengel.

Winners in the individual category were: Algebra—first place: Alex Thums, Nellisville; second place: Heidi Gehrke, Auburndale.  Geometry—first place: Cody Gehrke, Auburndale; second place: Alex Mohr, Neillsville. Pre-Calculus—first place: Charlie Mayeux, Columbus; second place: Anna Gaede, Greenwood.

Winners in the group category were: Algebra—Stratford: Ashley Hartl, Erin Specht and Andrea Wenzel.  Geometry—Auburndale Team 1: Bryan Gehrke, Jake Hunsberger, and Dakota Raab. Pre-Calculus—Marshfield: Kate Schumitsch, Nathan Olson and Jose Hernandez. Mixed—Marshfield: Jordan Galeles, Alyssa Rine and Jennifer Weier.

Participating high schools included Auburndale, Columbus, Greenwood, Marshfield, Medford, Neillsville, Stanley-Boyd, Stratford and Thorp.
