Social Entrepreneurship to Address
Business Solutions for Local Issues
“Social Entrepreneurship: The Next Major
Wave” is the subject of a presentation Thursday, April 27, 7-9
pm, at UW-Marshfield/Wood County Black Box Theatre. The public
is invited to come and learn how entrepreneurs invent new ways
to create social value and address challenges through business
solutions.
Three panelists will participate: Jim
Bower, Madison-based consultant on strategy development and
lecturer on social entrepreneurship at UW-Madison; Heather
Hilleren, founder of GreenLeaf Market, a new internet-based
enterprise connecting growers and buyers to increase consumption
of locally-grown produce; and Georgette Frazer, local financial
planning and investment advisor who has made social change an
integral part of values-based investing.
According to Bower, "Social entrepreneurs
go beyond the immediate problem. They seek to fundamentally
change the way society organizes itself through the power of a
pattern-changing 'big idea'."
Panelists will present examples of social
enterprises and the impact on societal issues they are designed
to address. As part of a series that focuses on global issues
and local action, discussion will explore the topic of
affordable housing.
