Auditions for ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ scheduled for May 19-20
Auditions for
the Campus Community Players production of “Bye Bye Birdie” will
be Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, in the choir room in the
Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building (near the Black Box
Theatre) at UW-Marshfield/Wood County.
Bye Bye Birdie
will be performed July 21-22 and July 27- 29. The first round of
auditions is primarily for vocal parts. Accompaniment will be
provided. Sheet music can be picked up in advance outside Room
368 in the lower level of the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts
Building. Copies of the script and score are available at the
Hamilton Roddis Memorial Library on campus. Behind-the-scenes
help and technical hands are also needed.
The fictional
story takes place in 1958, centering around Conrad Birdie, a
hip-thrusting rock and roll superstar (akin to Elvis) enlisting
in the army. Albert Peterson, his agent, hatches a last-ditch
publicity stunt: before he is sent to the army, Conrad will give
one lucky girl a kiss on The Ed Sullivan Show. Kim
MacAfee, the president of Conrad’s fan club, of Sweet Apple,
Ohio, wins the contest. Albert’s plan goes awry. Kim's boyfriend
becomes disastrously jealous of Conrad, and Conrad himself
becomes tired of the show business life and tries to teach the
kids how to party! Hit songs from the show include “Put on a
Happy Face,” “One Last Kiss” and “Kids.”
This is a large
cast musical- all ages, types and ethnicities are encouraged to
audition. Behind the scenes and technical staff also needed. The
production team includes: Music Director David De Lyser,
associate professor of music, and Choreographer Tricia Marion.
