MARSHFIELD – William Bukowski, painter from Mankato, MN will
be speaking at a gallery reception for his exhibit
“Observation & Representational Imagery” at 6 p.m. Tuesday,
Oct. 25, in Gallery 450 at UW-Marshfield/Wood County in the
Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building,
Bukowski is a well known professional painter of
representational themes that often utilize reflective
qualities in surfaces of still life objects. He is also a
professor of art at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato,
MN. He carries an expansive show record and is well
established in contemporary art.
Bukowski earned his Masters of Fine Arts and Master of Arts
from UW-Madison in 1979 and 1978, respectfully. He earned
his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Mankato State in 1976.
"My artwork is about what I see and experience,” Bukowski
said. “The recent paintings of gardens are inspired by the
gardens at Sibley Park in Mankato. I like the gardens
because they have a timeless quality and the history of
things that I enjoy arranging or looking at.
“All of my work is rooted in the tradition of Western
European Art. I filter the world through my own eyes and
try to paint interesting paintings. I want people to enjoy
seeing their world through my paintings."
“Observation & Representational Imagery” is the first of
four exhibits in the Visual Arts Series “Art & the
Culture of Observation, Invention and Expression” in
Gallery 450 for the 05-06 Arts at the UW season. “Beyond
the Surface – The Invention of Surface Texture” will run
October through January; “Realism x 3 – Expression in
Subject Matter” will run in March; and the “Annual
UW-Marshfield/Wood County Student Exhibition” will be in
April.
