MARSHFIELD – UW-Marshfield/Wood County has five new faces on
campus this fall.
●
Dr. Catherine Mitchell
is teaching English and communication. She is also adviser
for the campus newspaper.
A
doctoral candidate at the University of Texas at Dallas,
Mitchell’s research areas include English Renaissance drama,
history and theory of rhetoric and creative writing. She has
held visiting lectureships at Southern Methodist University
in Dallas and Stephen F. Austin State University in
Nacogdoches, Texas.
Her
fiction has appeared in several journals and anthologies,
and she received the Graduate Fiction Prize from the Gulf
Coast Association of Creative Writing Teachers. Mitchell was
also a writer and editor for several publications while
serving as director of communications for the Denver Chamber
of Commerce and for Gerber Technologies Inc.

Dr. David De Lyser
is teaching music theory and aural skills and music
appreciation. He will also be conducting the
University/Community Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble.
De Lyser
earned his doctorate of arts degree from the University of
Northern Colorado, with a primary emphasis in music theory
and composition, and a secondary emphasis in conducting.
Prior to coming to the UW Marshfield/Wood County, he
conducted various band, orchestra and choral ensembles in
Colorado and in the Portland, Ore. Area. He also taught at
the University of Northern Colorado, Portland Community
College and the University of Portland, where he received a
master of arts degree in music.
De Lyser
was the 2005 winner of the Mercury Ensemble Composition
Award and also had a work performed at the 2005 College
Music Society Regional Conference in Denver. In addition,
he has had compositions performed and premiered by the
University of Portland Orchestra, the Fort Collins High
School Orchestra and the Rocky Mountain Chorale. De Lyser
is a trumpet player and vocalist, and has performed in
professional choirs in the Portland area, as well as pit
orchestras for various regional and dinner theatres in the
Chicago and Twin Cities’ area.

Michelle Boernke
is the director of Continuing Education. Most recently,
Boernke was executive director of the Marshfield Area United
Way, a position she held for four years. Previous positions
include manager of the Northway Mall, program director of
the Marshfield Area YMCA, former owner of Treehouse Toy
Store and former executive director of the Taylor Branch
YMCA in Elgin, Ill. She has a bachelor’s of science degree
from UW-La Crosse.

Amanda Lang
is a student services coordinator. She
received a bachelor of arts degree from UW-Madison in
sociology and is currently working towards a master of
science degree in adult education from UW-Platteville. She
was most recently employed by UW-Madison as a master’s of
business administration advisor.

Ann Wegner
joined the campus business office in May. She was most
recently employed as a financial specialist at UW-Madison in
food microbiology and radiology departments.
