KnowHow2Go released on UW-M/WC website

MARSHFIELD – “Be a pain.”

“Push yourself.”

“Find the right fit.”

“Put your hands on some cash.”

These are the “Four Steps to College” – part of the “Know How 2 Go” campaign that is now available through the UW-Marshfield/Wood County Web site:  www.marshfield.uwc.edu.

“According to the U.S. Department of Education, eight out of 10 young people plan on earning a bachelor’s degree,” said Jeff Meece, assistant campus dean for Student Services at UW-M/WC.  “It takes planning, however, to make that happen.  That planning needs to start early on, so both students and their families are prepared financially and academically.”

“Know How 2 Go” provides action-focused goals for students and their families to help make higher education a reality.  The site contains individual links for middle schoolers, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and mentors.  There is also a link for college-bound students to sign up for newsletters geared to their grade level.  Among other things, the link includes the following  “Four Steps to College:”

● Be a pain – Let everyone know that you’re going to college and need their help.

● Push yourself – Working a little harder today will make getting into college even easier.

● Find the right fit – Find out what kind of school is the best match for you and your career goals.

● Put your hands on some cash - If you think you can't afford college, think again. There's lots of aid out there.

“We’re really pleased to host the Know How 2 Go link on our Web site,” Meece said. “It contains no propaganda – just factual information on what students and families need to do to make college a reality.  It includes interest surveys, tips on choosing a college, general information on what high school courses to take, financial planning and more."

Know How 2 Go was launched by the American Council on Education, Lumina Foundation for Education and the Ad Council in January 2007.  For more information, call Student Services at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, 715-389-6530, or visit www.marshfield.uwc.edu.
