UW-M/WC enrollment up thanks to tuition
freeze
MARSHFIELD – New student enrollment at UW-Marshfield/Wood County
is 4 percent higher than in August of 2006, thanks in part to a
tuition freeze approved by the UW Board of Regents earlier this
month.
With the freeze, UW-Marshfield/Wood County students will pay the
same dollar amount in tuition that they did last year - $2,134
per semester. Tuition at four-year campuses will be increasing
by 5.5 percent. The action by the Board of Regents increases
annual tuition by $251 on most UW campuses, $323 at
UW-Milwaukee, and $330 at UW-Madison.
“Most of our students enrolled prior to the tuition
announcement,” said Jeff Meece, assistant campus dean for
Student Services. “However, since the tuition announcement,
we’ve had steady enrollment increases daily. The added value
really makes a difference for area students.”
In
new students alone, UW-M/WC is up 13 percent compared to August
2006. As of today (August 21), total new student enrollment is
at 321, up from 284 in 2006 and 298 in 2005.
“It’s not too late to register for classes,” Meece said. “We
will continue to enroll new students through mid-September.
After that point, it may become difficult for students to catch
up on class material.”
Orientation for new students and their families is 8 a.m. to 4
p.m. Tuesday, August 28. Fall semester classes begin Tuesday,
Sept. 4. To apply or to register for classes, contact Student
