Auditions for 'The Cripple of Inishmaan'

MARSHFIELD - Auditions for the Campus Community Players production of “The Cripple of Inishmaan” will be held in early February in the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, 2000 W. 5th St.

“The Cripple of Inishmaan” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 10-12 and 17-19.  A matinee will be performed at 2 p.m. April 13 in the Black Box Theatre.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the evening.  For an audition appointment, contact Director Steven Decker at steven.decker@uwc.edu, or call 715-389-6543. Though nothing specific need be prepared, reading the script in advance is suggested. The script is on reserve in the Hamilton Roddis Memorial Library on the UW-Marshfield/Wood County campus.

“The Cripple of Inishmaan” is a strange, comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling, complete with zany characters and plot twists.  On the remote island of Inishmore, off the coast of Ireland in 1934, word gets around that a Hollywood director is coming to produce a film.  A young orphan, nicknamed “Cripple Bill,” wants to be in the movie more than anyone.  This play will take you along Cripple Billy’s crazy journey of hope and discovery.

Tickets for “The Cripple of Inishmaan” are $12.  The Campus Box Office is open 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before performances.  To order tickets, call 389-6534.  VISA, MasterCard and Discover are accepted.

The Campus-Community Players presents a wide variety of productions, including classical work, new plays, musicals and, sometimes, family oriented work. As a college theatre program, which also relies on members of the community in its productions, the primary goal of the program is the education of students. Many students have gone on to professional careers in acting, directing, playwriting, theatre education and theatrical production. This aim of teaching and learning requires a variety of theatrical genres, periods and styles which reflect the current contemporary theatre landscape. There are many opportunities to get involved both onstage and off. New faces are always welcome. Contact Decker, assistant professor of Communication and Theatre Arts, at steven.decker@uwc.edu, for more information.
