Auditions for ‘Elephant Man’ scheduled
for Sept. 11-12
Auditions for the Campus Community Players production of “The
Elephant Man”
will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 11 and 12, in the
Helen Laird Theatre in the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building
at UW-Marshfield/Wood County.
This Broadway play is a theatrical retelling of the
semi-biographical account of John Merrick, set in London. Dubbed
the “Elephant Man” by a circus freak show due to severe physical
deformities, Merrick is rescued by a kind doctor. Eventually, he
is able to successfully integrate into Victorian society.
“Today we are obsessed by image and vanity,” said Steve Decker,
director and assistant professor of Communication and Theatre
Arts. “‘The Elephant Man’ is sure to renew your belief in
kindness, gentility and faith.”
Reading the play prior to auditioning is strongly encouraged.
Scripts are on reserve in the Hamilton Roddis Memorial Library
on campus. Auditions will consist of reading with other actors
from the script.
“The Elephant Man”
will be performed on Nov. 1-4 and 8-10. To schedule an audition
appointment, work backstage, or for any other information,
please contact Steve Decker 715-389-6543 or email
steven.decker@uwc.edu.
The
Campus-Community Players presents a wide variety of productions,
including classical work, new plays, musicals and, sometimes,
family oriented work. As a college theatre program, which also
relies on members of the community in its productions, the
primary goal of the program is the education of students. Many
students have gone on to professional careers in acting,
directing, playwriting, theatre education and theatrical
production. This aim of teaching and learning requires a variety
of theatrical genres, periods and styles which reflect the
current contemporary theatre landscape. There are many
opportunities to get involved both onstage and off. New faces
are always welcome. Contact
Decker,
assistant professor of Communication and Theatre Arts, at
