Exhibit opens in Gallery 450

MARSHFIELD – "New Printmaking Images," an art exhibit featuring the work of Paul DeLong, Professor of Art at UW-Stout, will kick off the Arts at the UW Visual Arts Series beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1, in Gallery 450 in the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building at the UW-Marshfield/Wood County.

A closing reception and gallery talk will be held 6-8 pm. Thursday, Sept. 27 in Gallery 450.

DeLong will be exhibiting current studio research in digital imagery as well as collage surface imagery.  His exhibit reflects the 2007-2008 Visual Arts Series Theme "In and Out of Traditional Art," said Julie Dierauer, manager of Gallery 450.

"Paul has a noteworthy career as a printmaker and academician," Dierauer said. “His printmaking research and teaching experiences span the areas of lithography, intaglio, relief and seriagraphic printmaking processes along with anchoring his interests in contemporary issues that presently involve his pursuits of innovative digital imagery and surface structures using it," she said.

"I have special interests in collaging and am more excited about processes in contrast to traditional printmaking techniques,” DeLong said. “I uphold a formalist approach to abstraction and very interested in bringing digital content into traditional printmaking practices."

DeLong earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking at UW-Madison.  While at UW-Madison, he studied with Warrington Colescott and Jack Damer.

He has been with the UW-Stout since 1981, and serves as professor of printmaking and design.  He has been program director for the university’s Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education Programs for nine years. He maintains an active studio at his residence in Menomonie, and exhibits extensively.

New Printmaking Images is the first exhibit in the “In and Out of Traditional Art” series.  Other exhibits are as follows:
