‘Resounding Rapture & Rapport opens in theatre lobby
MARSHFIELD –
Resounding Rapture & Rapport," a summer art exhibit featuring
artist Kathryn E. Petke, is on display in the theatre lobby of
the Helen Connor Laird Fine Arts Building at UW-Marshfield/Wood
County, 2000 W. 5th St., Marshfield.
Like the
artists’ whose work is currently on display in Gallery 450,
Petke focuses on printmaking.
“We
are beings with the same body structure, instincts, and similar
traits,” Petke said. “While we are drawn to like facets of life,
we each gravitate toward specific people with certain interests,
personalities and quirks. Much like this attraction, so are we
to sensations and amusement. This amazing affinity is
unexplainable. Perhaps this seduction is because people and
sensations enliven, provoke and awake us. Or possibly they
create peace of mind and relief from the worries and chaos of
everyday life. I believe this consciousness is necessary to
hydrate and bring life.”
Petke is a
UW-Marshfield/Wood County graduate. She has a bachelor of fine
arts from UW-Stevens Point and is working toward her master of
fine arts degree at UW-Madison. She said her inspiration comes
from “this juicy, mysterious life source.”
“The art
process and interaction with the relief printing plate are my
muse, stimulate, and escape. My lighthearted sense of humor and
intuition compose alluring communicable pieces. Color, shape,
line and illusion create vitality within these prints. Life is
rapturous, which is echoed in my work.”
Petke and
her exhibit will be part of the Gallery Reception at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, in Gallery 450. Artists
Cathy Jean
Clark and Sue Wendlandt will also be in attendance for the
opening of “Prints & Drawings.”
Gallery 450 is
open 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and during all
performances in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre. |
