MARSHFIELD – The
following students received awards at the UW-Marshfield/Wood
County Commencement & Awards Ceremony held on May 21 on the
campus.
Brittany Lueth,
Abbotsford, received the 2006 William P. Pors Award – the
highest student award presented by the campus. The award is in
honor of William Pors, a Marshfield resident who played a
significant role in locating the college in Marshfield/Wood
County. The award acknowledges student leadership. Lueth’s
leadership activities included: Serving as a student ambassador,
a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, the Student Selection Committee,
a student athletic trainer, team captain of the championship
volleyball team, a member of the athletic and recreation board,
a member of the teaching excellence committee; and secretary and
Web site designer for Intervarsity Fellowship Christian
Fellowship.
Lynnette
Mitchell, Pittsville, was awarded the Phi Theta Kappa honor
society scholarship. Her involvement included: Recruiting new
members, coordinating the fall and spring induction ceremonie,
selling tickets and working at the fall and spring Younkers
Community Day Sales, coordinating the campus-wide Hurricane
Katrina fundraiser in October and the spring “Project
Graduation” fundraiser, donating items for other fundraisers and
serving as a chef for Food For Thought.
Becky Binder,
Marshfield, earned the Provisional Phi Theta Kappa honor society
award. Her involvement included the Hurricane Katrina event,
donating items for our needy families at Christmas; selling
tickets and working at the Younkers’ Community Day sales;
volunteering at Food for Thought and participating in Relay for
Life activities.
Justin Fischer,
Marshfield, earned the English Department Award for outstanding
achievement in English studies.
Jennifer
Trimble, Loyal, earned the Athlete of the Year award for the
second consecutive year. In volleyball, Trimble was co-captain,
an all-state tournament team selection, a Region I All-State
Selection and a unanimous First Team All-Conference Selection
which garnered her The Player of the Year Award. In basketball,
Trimble was a First Team All-Conference Selection and a Region I
All-State Player. She led her team in total points, most points
per game and she was second in rebounding.
Shanon Denzine,
Marshfield, and Ashley Gorst, Granton, earned the Scholar
Athlete Awards – the most prestigious award given by the
Wisconsin Collegiate Conference. The award is given to the
sophomore athlete that has the highest combination of academic
and athletic success. Denzine was both All-Conference &
All-State in tennis. He won the number three state doubles and
finished second at number four singles. Gorst was co-captain of
the women’s basketball team, second in scoring and assists,
All-Conference & First Team All-State.
The following
Student Ambassadors were honored for their service throughout

Pittsville; Ernest Kibbel, Spencer; Patrick Neuenfeldt,
Loyal; Becky Raine, Marshfield; Angela Schellin,
Theresa.
The following Student Senate members
were honored for their service throughout the year: President
Wendy Waterman, Stratford; Vice President Allison
Bernitt, Auburndale; Secretary Courtney Pease,
Stratford; Treasurer Sarah Trudeau, Marshfield; Public
Relations Executive Patrick Neuenfeldt, Loyal; and First Year
Executive Amy Michalski, Marshfield.
Dr. John Pruitt,
assistant professor of English, earned the Teaching Excellence
Award. The recipient of this annual award must earn at least
two nominations from students. Other nominees included Dr.
Jeffrey Kleiman, associate professor of history, and Dr.
Paige Muellerleille, assistant professor of psychology.
